Insomnia: When Rest Does Not Feel Safe

Insomnia: When Rest Doesn't Feel Safe

There is a special kind of loneliness that lives in the middle of the night. The house is quiet. The world is still. And your body is wide awake.

You watch the clock. You calculate. You bargain. If I fall asleep right now, I can still get five hours.

And then the pressure begins. Why can't I sleep? What is wrong with me?

If this is you, please hear this first. You are not broken. You are not failing. Your body may simply not feel safe enough to let go.

The problem no one talks about

Most insomnia advice treats sleep like a discipline problem. Turn off your phone. Keep a routine. Try harder to relax.

But you've already tried that. You've done the apps, the supplements, the magnesium, the blackout curtains, the breathing exercises, the prayers — and still the night feels impossible.

That's because for many people, insomnia isn't a sleep problem at all. It's a safety problem.

Sleep requires surrender. It requires your nervous system to believe, even briefly, that it is safe to let go.

And if your body has been living inside stress, grief, trauma, heartbreak, or emotional overwhelm, rest may not feel safe yet.

Your mind may say I know I'm safe — but your nervous system may still be scanning, still bracing, still on guard.

This is not a weakness. This is not a character flaw. This is your body doing exactly what it learned to do to protect you.

What your body might be carrying

The body remembers more than we realize. It holds old fear, old grief, old survival patterns — sometimes from long before we had words for them.

Sometimes the mind says, "That was years ago," but the body says, "I still feel it."

Sometimes the mind says I just can't sleep, but the body says I need to feel safe first.

This is why shame never helps. If you are living with insomnia, you are likely already carrying enough of it — dreading bedtime before it arrives, feeling frustrated with yourself, wondering why something that sounds as simple as sleep feels so impossibly hard.

You do not need more shame.

You need care.

A different kind of help

I don't force the body to relax. I don't tell you to just calm down. I don't treat you like a problem to be solved.

Instead, I create a space where your body can begin to soften from the inside out.

Through somatic release, breathwork, hypnosis, meditation, StretchAlchemy, and DanceAlchemy, I work gently with your nervous system and subconscious mind — helping you release what your body has been holding, build a sense of inner safety, and reconnect with yourself in a loving, compassionate way.

I know this path personally.

My life isn't perfect, and I'm not standing on the other side of this work looking back.

I'm walking it too — continuously learning to release the somatic energy my own body has carried, the patterns that no longer serve me.

I know what it feels like when your body braces, when rest feels just out of reach, when you're doing everything right and still struggling.

That's exactly why I do this work, and why I will never meet you with judgment — only care.

You are welcome here

You don't have to arrive calm.

You don't have to arrive healed.

You don't have to explain everything perfectly.

You can come exactly as you are — tired, tender, frustrated, hopeful, unsure — and whatever your particular version of this looks like, we will begin there. Together.

You only have to arrive.
